  • Sonia GaviraDo you want to make sure you start 2012 the way you mean to go on?
  • Are you ready to get the challenge and support you need to make sure 2012 is a great year/
  • Ready to jump the gun on everyone else?

My name is Sonia Gavira and over the last 15 years I have worked with some of the most senior managers and leaders in the FTSE 250 globally, as well as some inspirational business owners and I have worked with them to help them successfully navigate great periods of professional and personal change, such as starting in a new role and or new company, growing and leading a senior team, managing an exit from the business and many more.

This is what some people have said:

Sonia was my coach for six months whilst I was the UK HR Director at SEGRO.  I was going through a personal and work transition at that time and Sonia provided me with support, insights and at times challange to my thoughts, plans and ideas.  I would be happy to recommend Sonia as a coach.Mark Pearce

Sonia and I worked together when I had taken on a new role at Grant Thornton as Head of Financial Services.  Sonia was particularly able to help me think through and develop the strategy for the business and for myself. I would highly recommend Sonia as a coach for anyone in a leadership position.  – Ian Gorham, Chief Executive, Hargreaves Lansdown

I spent thirty intensive minutes with Sonia today and gleaned more from her input and insights in thirty minutes than I can honestly imagine gaining from a weekend workshop!

Sonia gets straight to the crux of the issue and delineates the key pointers in one fail swoop, helping to crystallise clarity of thought which is often so hard as a sole proprietor when you’re overwhelmed with a number of key tasks.

Sometimes it takes expert outside advice to help you re-frame your strategy and think outside the box. Sonia certainly facilitates that process and I’m inordinately grateful, thank you Sonia.Emma James, Emma James Massage Therapy

I employed Sonia shortly after setting up my own business. She brought a whole new attitude and perspective, and her clear analytical approach quickly gained my trust and that of my colleagues, some of whom had worked with me in the old firm for decades. It is perhaps that trust which I valued most, as without it any added value to a business is impossible from outsiders. – Stefano Fraquelli, Managing Director, Metropolitan Restaurants Ltd

Are you ready to get the same results?

If you are a CEO, Owner, Board Director or Functional Director and you are experiencing one or any of the following:

  • You have just been promoted to the position (or have just started a new job) and you are looking to hit the ground running and create an impact in the first three months
  • You need to put together, grow and or develop the team to deliver on business objectives
  • You need to develop and communicate a new strategy and get your team to deliver on it effectively
  • You want to map out your career, whether it be progression or exit and succession planning
  • You are technically superb and now you need to add man management and leadership to your portfolio of skills

then working one to one with an experienced professional on a confidential basis will be the quickest way to get you to where you want to be.

Who am I and what qualifes me to work with you?

Well, I have a commercial background in marketing across service and manufacturing industries to which I later added HR experience as Marketing and HR Director for a London restaurant group. I worked in international organisations which meant that I became experienced at managing large scale projects across international bounderies with increasing virtual and remote teams.

I loved the work that involved me in major rebranding and product development projects, particularly when it meant rejuvenating ailing brands in very competitive markets.

Why might this be relevant? For those of you looking for someone to support you who has extensive commercial experience, strategic experience as well as man management and leadership experience, you have found it here.

In the last ten years or so I have spent my time working extensively with CEOs, Board Directors and Senior Managers in a number of areas:

  • Supporting them individually in their development whether new into the role, managing transitions or planning their exit.
  • Helping technically expert senior manangers add man management and leadership skills to their portfolio.
  • Enabling them to achieve both professional and personal success.
  • Managing their stakeholders and improving their networking.
  • Developing high performance teams.
  • Helping them transission from one role in an organisation to another role in a different organisation following a restructure and redundancy,

amongst others.
In terms of Personal Style, I have been described as “challenging and commercial” whilst also “warm, empathetic and fun”.
Coaching has helped me create the professional and personal success I wanted and I truly believe that is possible for everyone – you just have to want to do it. Coaching is also an incredibly valuable organisational tool which can enable a company as a whole to grow and do so in more creative ways.

And on a personal note…

I was born in London to spanish parents who were great at ensuring that I knew and lived my spanish roots. We were part of a thriving spanish community in London and although that had great advantages (I speak spanish fluently with no accent – sorry! a southern spanish accent!) it also meant that we were perhaps a little isolated from the general UK community. This all changed when we moved to Tring in Hertfordshire – a quintessentially english small town where I attended the local comprehensive school. This was the first time I had to wear a uniform and experience the British educational system.

I did well at school and even got elected as head girl! I was also subjected to a great deal of bullying both physically and verbally because I was different, was doing well, was seen as a leader and was spanish…

But I got on, went to Exeter University where I was elected head of house, graduated with a 2:1 honours degree and then started my working career. In my first job at Marks and Spencer as a management trainee in stores, I landed in one of the most political stores in the group at the time – their first out of town store at Brookfield Farm in Cheshunt. It was an amazing experience, especially finding that almost from day one I was the manager of a section on the shop floor (produce! great at Christmas…) and expected to manage amazing people who had been working for the company for 30 years or more! Oh boy!

I changed jobs about every 2 years and even when I stayed in one place for longer, the company would go through a major change and be bought by someone else so I would end up working for a different employer!

I progressed well, learned to navigate the politics, learned to manage and lead others by being thrown in the deep end until I decided for another change and took a year out to do my MBA, have my first child, Luis and start my own business.

Luis is now 12, I have another son Nico aged 6 and am still happily married to their father, Simon! And running my own business has presented me with numerous learning opportuities and challenges.

Why am I telling you all of this? I believe that this demonstrates a number of things:

  • I am a human being and not just a business person, just like you.
  • I have been exposed to a great amount of change and transition both personally and professionally and have successfully navigated them and in the process found ways to even enjoy it.
  • I have been in leadership positions most of my life – starting at school, through university and in my business career – and I have learned from all those situations. So my leadership knowledge does not just come from books.
  • I have also experienced the isolation that can come from those positions and found ways to combat it.

So, if you have decided that you want to achieve your goals in 2012 and have me challenge you and help you to achieve them, I have put together a number of options for you:
